As a Latina nurse and researcher, this step feels like a natural extension of everything I’ve stood for: health equity, representation, and building systems that work for all of us. Today wasn't a good day for me, but after watching your video, I found it very powerful. I had a challenging conversation with one of my colleagues today. As a realtor and a Colombian, the discussion centered around my insecurities about speaking with random people in the street. Thank you, Claudia, for giving us such a beautiful perspective and helping to survive my day.

Everything changed last year when I went to a conference and I had an “aha” moment. Claudia shared powerful data about the Latino community that opened my eyes to our strength and importance. I learned I needed to flip the script. I understood after years of self-censorship of my Spanglish that my accent isn’t a weakness —it’s a strength.

I came to the U.S. at 13, navigating school, college, and my career alone. By 27, I thought I’d made it. But imposter syndrome told me otherwise. Today, I’m earning my MBA and reclaiming my confidence. My wings are growing back.

In the professional world, being Latino often makes the climb harder. Then Hispanic Star gave me a ticket to Advertising Week, where I met my hero, Tim Armstrong. Claudia Romo Edelman introduced me, and he handed me his card.

But I also started getting inspired about how far I can go —I was reminded of my own super powers of connection and community building. Moving to leadership roles, leading the Americas office of a global agency, and latterly working for a Hispanic nonprofit.

For years, I hid my heritage —even from my children. At work, I downplayed my Latinidad, fearing it would hold me back. But when I learned how much Latinos contribute to this country, something changed. Pride replaced shame.
